The Discworld® Range

I've always loved Terry Pratchett's Discworld books. You could say that I got into them right at the beginning just about when The Light Fantastic came out in Hardback. I bought that first not realising it was a sequel, and had a devil of a job getting hold of a copy of The Colour of Magic. Eventually I found one in an obscure bookshop after a few failed attempts in the more established bookshops. One Lady shop assistant looked down her nose at me through her half rimmed glasses and bellowed ‘Terry who???' when I enquired as to whether she had a copy in stock or not, how things change.

I started reading Colour of Magic and was instantly a fan, it was just so different and so funny compared to anything else I'd ever read, Terry's a great author and I feel very privileged to have a licence to produce items from his books.

For me Terry has a great way of describing things, I instantly get a picture in my mind of how, from my point of view, they might look (that said, I don't always get it right!). The Iconograph was a very prominent vision and I had a niggling for ages to make one. My chance came when Clarecraft had their first event back in the summer of 1995. They were running an art competition and I had some modelling clay and some spare bits of wood lying around so I went for it. Three days and two messy rooms later (I truly am a messy worker, I start on a table run out of room, move onto the floor by the table and run out of room, move across the floor filling it up as I go and out of the door, I was working in the bedroom, so it was lucky I didn't fall down the stairs!) Anyway, to recap, three days and two messy rooms later, I'd finished. So it was off to Clarecraft, exhibit the Iconograph and win first prize in the art competition, Terry loved it and it's now in his collection. I was a little bit excited!

As a result of my Iconographic success I managed to get a licence from Terry to make Discworld artefacts, the first being Deaths clock. When I first started producing these I sculpted the original (more mess), had them cast elsewhere and had them delivered unpainted. With no workshop or studio, I would have to spray paint or airbrush them in the back garden. This was no joke in the frosty depths of winter or worse in high winds. I still can picture black paint leaving the airbrush and going sideways instead of forwards. Luckily things have moved on and I've now got somewhere warm and wind free to do all my painting.

Next came my new version of the Iconograph. This has been described by Terry's agent as a labour of love. It took ages to sculpt and is a nightmare to cast and takes a lifetime to paint. All that said, after all this time, I still rate it as my personal favourite Discworld piece.

The rest of the range followed and I hope to be adding to it in the future. I hope you enjoy them.

I've been making these for ten years now and am hopefully going to do a special 10 th anniversary edition this year. It's a lovely piece; it stands about 17 inches high and has a working movement with a TALL HOLLOW TICK! It's painted in muted blacks and blues and I'm happy to sign or dedicate it on the base or back if required.

Size: 17 inches tall

Price: £79.95

Cutwells Doorknocker

Cast in pewter and painted and varnished to look like bronze. This is my interpretation of the doorknocker on the wizard Cutwells door in Mort. That part of the book made me laugh so much I just had to make it. ‘Fut up'

This is sold as a collectors item as I can't guarantee the paint finish if the doorknocker is used on an outside door but that said plenty of people have fixed them to their front doors in the past and so far no complaints. It's heavy and the knocker moves.

Size: 6 ½ inches overall height

Price: £27

Door Knocker

Twoflowers Iconograph.

This is a great piece. It has an opening front and top, most of the parts loose so that they can be placed however you desire, you can even take the picture off the easel.

The hatch at the very top opens so that the Imp can be positioned looking out of the top of the Iconograph if you'd rather display it shut.

There's a fried breakfast in the saucepan on the cooker, tables, chairs a very unmade bed and a grumpy imp possibly called Sydney and a clear lens for him to look through. Everything you'd need in an Iconograph!

I'm also planning a salamander flash as an accessory which will hopefully fit into the slot on the side. The salamanders are made. I've just got to figure out the cage.

Sizes: 8 inches tall with the lid closed

Price: £285

The Movie Iconograph

For this piece I tried to get a real industrial feel, the inside of the box is very grubby and grimy, there's a wheel with little whips on to make the imps work faster, there's dirt, food, blankets, paints and tools. The imps are divided into two groups; two upstairs painting and four downstairs blowing it dry (although one is puffed out) The imps are removable and the front of the Movie Iconograph can be fixed on using the pewter brackets. The outside is reminiscent of a golden age of film camera. Thanks to the Museum of moving image in London for the inspiration!

Size: 13 ¼ from base to top of reels

Price: £265

Vimes' Dis-organiser

This is my latest Discworld piece. It was a long time in the making but I think it has turned out quite well. It has a hinged opening front and removable bars. The imp is naked at Terrys request but luckily has a modesty table. He's surrounded by paper, notes and diaries, just right to keep everything Dis-organised! Bingly bingly bong………..

Size: 5 ¼ inches high

Price: £90
